Tower defense and its close relatives
Tower defense is the core of this category. Enemies march along a set route and you place towers beside it, each with its own range, damage and cost. The fun is in the choices, which tower goes where, when to upgrade and when to save.
The Keeper of the Grove games are good examples, you protect magic stones from waves of creatures. Keeper Of The Grove 3 and Keeper of the Groove 2 are both here. Monsters TD is another tower defense pick, and Toy Defence places the defending on World War II battlefields.
Age of War plays differently. You and the enemy each have a base at one end of the screen, and you send units across while evolving from the stone age onward. Missile Defense System is about stopping incoming missiles. Toy Defence, Age of War and Missile Defense System also run on phones.
